Mosquito Costume

lepetitearbre.IMG_1687     This costume was for school. I wanted him to be comfortable, so he could take it off during the day. I made it in about a day.

I had pants and shoes and flight goggles from EBay. I was inspired by this awesome cardboard website. Makes me want more cardboard in my life.

Others materials needed: A pizza box, black duct tape, blue painters tape, a can of black spray paint, a dollar store long sleeve gray shirt, dollar store angel wings, dollar store women’s knee high dress socks, pipe cleaner cut in half.lepetitearbre.IMG_1688lepetitearbre.IMG_1689

I cut a long triangle out of the pizza box and score the middle to fold it. The part of the box lid that folds down, leave attached and cris cross it on itself the tape it so the proboscis stays folded.  I used duct tape to attach it to the nose of the flight goggles. The antenna is double covered pipe cleaners shaped and wrapped around the goggle straps.lepetitearbre.IMG_1696

The angel wings were reshaped to be more oval and worn upside down, more like a fly.

The shirt back was all sprayed black. Painters tape was used to create stripes on the gray then praying the seams black.

The extra legs just have a strip of cardboard in them to make them curl, be stiff and not poke or break.

The back pack is just two “U” shape frames tapped to each other.

Everything is sprayed black! Finally a boy costume with wings.
